Craobh Haven House | Stunning Argyll retreat with outstanding sea views, spa tub and BBQ cabin

4 Bedroom House

Scone Cottage is a stunning contemporary villa. It was carefully designed to take full advantage of its magnificent aspects over the Sound of Jura towards Mull with the islands of Shuna, Luing and Scarba. With large jaccuzi and bbq cabin you will have everything for a wonderful holiday.
The house is built on two storeys under a tiled roof with a balcony on the first floor maximizing the views over the landscaped gardens and beyond to the Sound of Jura. The house design is characterised by the dominant use of glass and wood, creating an open, airy Scandinavian feel, with the outdoors ever present through the generous windows, whatever the weather.
The main entrance to Scone Cottage is via the door to the side of the property leading to a well proportioned reception hallway with a downstairs shower room off with luxury suite. The double height sun room has French doors to the side and fantastic views to both the front and rear.
There is an exceptionally spacious open plan kitchen / dining room with a wide range of white bespoke base and wall mounted units with marble worktops, integrated appliances and island unit. Off the kitchen there is a fitted utility room and integral one and a half sized garage. To the rear of the ground floor there are two double sized bedrooms.
The first floor accommodation has a bright open plan sitting room with sliding doors leading to the wonderful glass fronted balcony from which the truly breathtaking outlook can be enjoyed. The master bedroom is also on the first floor with a sleek, contemporary en suite four piece bathroom with Jacuzzi bath off and large walk in wardrobe. The accommodation is completed by a substantial studio / bedroom.
There is a very efficient and eco friendly wood burning stove. Heating is underfloor and is serviced from a very efficient ground source heat pump and insulation.
The property benefits from a large veranda overlooking the sound and the islands. On the veranda we have a fantastic top of the range Spa for 6 with views down the sound to Jura. There is a Rattan Corner Sofa Dining Set with Gas Fire pit table for alfresco dining and some comfortable steamer chairs to relax in.
The gardens have been landscaped by the current owners with a wide variety of mature trees and shrubs with steps leading to the foot of the garden.
This property is not suitable for children under the age of eleven.
Scone Cottage sits in a stunning elevated position, high above Craobh Haven Marina with spectacular open aspects over the sound of Jura and towards Mull.
Craobh Haven offers a village shop, a chandlery, an excellent bar and restaurant and has some of the best marina facilities in the country. The district is well served by a fine range of local country pubs, restaurants and hotels, all of which usually sell local seafood and seasonal produce.
Oban, around 22 miles north, offers a more extensive range of services including shopping, schools at both primary and secondary levels, swimming pool and cinema. There is a ferry terminal with daily services to a range of islands including Mull and the Outer Hebrides and a mainline railway station with connections to Glasgow. Lochgilphead is about 17 miles south and there is a regular bus service between the two towns. Inverary Castle and Jail is well worth a visit within an hours drive.
Arduaine Garden (a National Trust garden), about 3 miles to the north of Craobh Haven, is famous in the district, originally conceived by J. Arthur Campbell who also built the award winning Loch Melfort Hotel. The gardens are extensive but retain the intimacy of a private garden.
The waters off the west coast of Scotland are famed for challenging sailing and stunning scenery. The sheltered marina at Craobh Haven is well known among the sailing community and has always drawn yachts and boating craft to its pretty and safe anchorage.
The surrounding countryside provides an abundance of outdoor and sporting activities including hill walking, horse riding and mountain biking. Craobh Haven, Oban, Lochgilphead and Ardfern provide sea fishing, wildlife boat trips plus sailing and ferry access to the west coast islands.

Summary: It's hard to say enough about how terrific this property is and I don't normally rave about places we stay in, despite having used many VRBO rentals around the world. This property is incredibly well appointed with beautiful luxury furnishings and so much attention to detail across the board, from the comfy and stylish beds and couches to a huge stock of wine glasses, seafood accoutrements, spices and kitchenware etc. They also went above and beyond the norm in terms of what consumables they provide guests, with a huge selection of coffees and teas including 5 types of nespresso in quantities to meet our whole groups needs for the week. We were told to help ourselves to beer and wine of which there was a nice selection on hand. Other extra treats included amaretti and chocolate-ginger biscuits, smoked salmon and gourmet crackers and the list goes on. I've never been so spoiled by a host before. The location is absolutely stunning with jaw-dropping views of the Slate Islands and the harbour down below. The hot tub worked beautifully and clearly is meticulously cared for and was cleaned/ph-balanced in advance of our arrival. Paul was gracious and helpful and advised on activities, even inquiring as to availability of boating charters on our behalf. He was also super responsive in bringing us a new propane tank for the fire table after we inadvertently used it up in our first full day. (Just so lovely to sit by that fire with that view and glass of Prosecco - hours can go by in no time at all!) Thanks again, Paul. Highly recommended.
