Positive: Staff were really lovely and helpful. it's a fantastic location for the town and for surfing/beaches. Comfy bed, clean room, nice and quiet. Free coffee was a bonus and helpful to have a little fridge to put a few bits in. Lots of places to sit and work/take calls for a couple hours although that was impossible for 2 days as there was a kids club. Was easy and cheap to rent boards, although it's a decent walk if you're carrying anything over 7".
Negative: It would be so much better if guests could make use of the kitchen, even to prepare a quick breakfast before surfing or properly store a few bits for the week. It really feels like a surf hostel environment, not a hotel, and therefore this is the type of thing that would entice lots more travellers who aren't coming to newquay to eat out 3x meals a day. This would have made my experience significantly better!
Summary: Great location, lovely staff, good experience but prepare to eat out a lot- no kitchen facilities
